Finding a suitable child restraint system when baby outgrows his infant car seat is much easier with the Cosco high back booster car seat. Although car seat laws vary from state to state, the general trend has been to raise age and weight minimums. Many states have already mandated that children should remain in a booster seat until age 8 and 80 pounds.

Cosco high back booster seat is a car seat that grows with your child.

One of the most economical car seats on the market from a trusted brand dedicated to safety and value, the high back booster seat provides comfort and protection for your most precious cargo.

For toddlers from 22 to 40 pounds and meeting the age requirement to upgrade from an infant seat, the forward-facing restraint system employs an internal five-point harness with a two-piece chest clip to keep your child secure. The seat is equipped with the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system for cars that are capable of using this feature, but it also allows parents to use the automobile seatbelts. It has two harness heights for a better fit, although this does require rethreading.

When the top harness guides are below the child's shoulders and the child weighs over 40 pounds, remove the harness and convert the seat into a belt-positioning booster. The two belt positioning guides will ensure a snug fit. The maximum weight for the belt-position booster seat is 80 pounds.

The booster seat is wide and roomy. The padded area around the head gives children space to doze in the back seat. The removable cup holder clips onto the side of the car seat and comes in handy for longer trips. It is reachable by the child, which is sometimes overlooked by other car seat makers. The padding is comfortable and is fully removable. The manufacturer recommends washing it in warm, sudsy water. The plaid isn't haute couture, but this car seat is more focused on safety and value, and it meets all expectations. --Scott Teal

2 out of 5 stars Child Complainted of Bump Sticking Into Her Back   February 26, 2010
Stewart Berman (New York City)
I purchased this for my youngest granddaughter who outgrew the other seat I had. I wanted a five point unit that would work with just a seatbelt as I do not have shoulder straps in the back of the car. (I would have prefered the Fisher Price 20/60 five point unit but they stopped making it.)

She fit in the seat with the straps in the upper slots. Unfortunately, there is a lump about an inch below the upper slots in the middle of the seat where one of the latching straps is attached to the rear of the seat. She felt this through a light winter coat. I had to put padding between the seat and the seat cover to prevent the bump from bothering her.

If a child is smaller enough for you to use the lower strap holes they probably won't feel the lump as it will be between their shoulders and their neck. However, if they are large enough to require the use of the upper strap holes they will have the lump pressing against their spine.

This is a great product. Easy to install and take in and out of the vehicle. I would have no problem purchasing this item again and highly recommend this car seat. My 3 year old Grandson loves the car seat, how much better of a recommendation can you get?

4 out of 5 stars Nice Seat, Check Child's Height   July 13, 2009

We bought this for our first child to use when our second child needs our convertible car seat. The older one is 19 months old and about 35 inches tall. He already needs the harness straps to be in the highest position available. For this reason, I'm a little concerned that he'll have to go to the belt-positioning mode before we're really ready to have him out of the five-point harness. (Straps are to be at or above child's shoulders.)

This is what the instruction manual says:

5-point harness: 22-40 lbs, 34-43 in, and over 1 year old
Belt-positioning booster: 40-80 lbs, 43-52 in, and over 1 year old

Regarding installation: the other two car seats I have are a BabyTrend FlexLoc infant carrier and a Britax Boulevard convertible car seat. Once we figured out how to put the harness straps through the correct slot (has to be done through the back), this seat installed as easily as either of the other two. The model we got has a buckle for adjusting the anchor tether, and does not appear to have the "threading" problem mentioned by previous reviewers. My child was comfortable and didn't seem to mind being in a different seat.

4 out of 5 stars Great carseat for my granddaughter   July 9, 2009
M. Canup (Mooresville, NC)
The car seat is very roomy for a growing child and was easy to install. She seems to be very comfortable in it for the short distances that I usually take her. It was a great price and was delivered faster than I expected.
